I have heard people talk here and there saying Jesus contradicted the Old Testament with His teachings. Well, I came across a verse from the Old Testament today that I hadn’t read before that contradicts them, at least a little bit. When Jesus is asked what the most important commandments are, His response is unexpected. He says (in both Mark 12:30 and Luke 10:27a), “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” In a devotional from Biblegateway.com, the reading was placed in Deuteronomy. I personally haven’t read much of that part of the Bible yet, although planning on doing more reading. Reading Deuteronomy 6:5, I felt like I had deja vu reading, considering the wording is almost the exact same. Deuteronomy 6:5 says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” This is mostly food for thought, that maybe Jesus wasn’t as contradicting as so many people seem to think.
